On Pics & Pals
Last night I was really blessed. Two of my roommates and I go to a “Life Group” on Sunday nights. It’s not primarily a bible study, although we do study the bible. It’s not a social club, though we do enjoy each other’s company. Mainly, it’s a place to come and be strengthened after the drain of the past week and recharged for the coming week. It’s a group of guys who want to share their lives with each other, and they are a great group of men.
One of the main guys is Eyakem, a senior Photojournalism major. I was telling him, as we were about to leave, that I wanted to show him my photos sometime. My four weeks in Israel produced several shots I thought he would appreciate and enjoy. He suggested coming right over. It was 11 p.m., but no on has classes today (MLK Jr. Day). So Eyakem and two other guys came over and sat around while I showed them my 1400 pictures taken in December. :-D I have always loved telling stories, and have been enough interesting places that I never run out. Two hours after the guys first came over, we noticed it was quarter after 1 and they began thinking about leaving.
Nights like last night make me happy. It’s not that I crave the attention I get when I tell stories, but that I enjoy seeing a look of interest on people’s faces. This is part of why I want to teach college classes: to engage the minds of young people and get them to see the world from another angle, another person’s perspective. Israel was such a great place to visit. I can’t wait to go back this summer.

I know exactly how you feel with having a group of guys to share your life with. I’m just starting going to one of those groups on Tuesdays. Last week was awesome and I’m really looking forward to tomorrow.
Oh, say I want to call you (if I can find your number) what time of day is good for you? (I think you’re two hours ahead of me)

JC, do you need me to e-mail it to you? Times… after 4:30 is good. Other than that, it depends on which day of the week.
Heidi, next time (first time) we meet, I’ll show you these pictures. :-)

Oh… and I just checked the folders; we’ve taken 23,000 pictures since July of 2000. Even though it seems like a lot, that’s only 14.3 pictures a day.
